Certificate Authorities (CAs), including DigiCert, have relied on this data to confirm domain ownership. However, due to increasing reliability concerns, the <strong>CA\/Browser Forum<\/strong> has mandated stricter validation practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>8 January 2025<\/strong> \u2013 DigiCert will discontinue the use of manual HTTPS-based Whois lookups for DV.<\/li><li><strong>8 May 2025<\/strong> \u2013 Whois lookup will be completely phased out and no longer accepted as a DV method.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>What this means for customers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When applying for an SSL Certificate, customers should plan to use alternative DV methods such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Email validation<\/strong> (using an approved domain contact address)<\/li><li><strong>DNS-based validation<\/strong> (adding a DNS TXT record)<\/li><li><strong>HTTP file upload validation<\/strong> (placing a file on the domain\u2019s web server)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>By preparing ahead, you can ensure a smooth SSL issuance process without disruption once the Whois method is retired.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For many years, Whois-based lookup has been one of the common methods used for Domain Validation (DV).
